Safety evaluation of calcium L-methylfolate
L-Methylfolate

L-methylfolate is the bioactive form of folate, a B-vitamin essential for methylation, DNA synthesis, and detoxification. The calcium component helps stabilize L-5-MTHF.
Humans cannot synthesize folate and must obtain it through food or supplements. However, up to 70% of the population carries genetic variations in the MTHFR gene that can reduce the body’s ability to convert folic acid into its active form. L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (L-methylfolate) bypasses this conversion step, ensuring more consistent availability of folate’s benefits. In addition, while folic acid can sometimes mask the hematological symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency, L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate has a lower potential to do so. *
Uses pre-activated folate for maximum effectiveness. Essential for cardiovascular health, liver detoxification function , and neurotransmitter production. Complements B12 and B6 for methylation support.
Leafy greens (spinach, kale) Legumes Fortified grains (though often as folic acid, not active folate)
Did You Know?
L-methylfolate is the only form of folate that can pass through the blood-brain barrier, a border created by endothelial cells that allow nutrients into the brain. Once it passes this barrier, l-methylfolate participates in the production of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Early in pregnancy, folate plays an important role in the neural tube development of the fetus.
